Appalachian Trail 2060
by Denny Webster
In contrast to Cabbagetown and the history of Atlanta, the Appalachian Trail looks forward in time to illustrate climate change effects along the east coast of the United States. Predictions include the intrusion of wildfires, usually seen as a Western phenomenon. We can already see the effects of forest fires in Massachusetts and Tennessee in recent years. Drought, heavy rains and tornadoes will also become more common. The moving shoreline is the result of floods and rising seas, glacier melt, hurricanes and damaging storms along the east coast. Although much of the Appalachian Trail is at some elevation, who knows how long it will remain untouched?

Cabbagetown, Atlanta
by Denny Webster
Cabbagetown is currently an artists’ enclave housed in former mill houses in the center of Atlanta. Move your eyes up from the times when the area around Atlanta was occupied by the Cherokee and Creek Indians, and contemplate the effects of the railroads on the region. Once cotton and other products could be moved quickly, the cotton mills, starting with the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill, began to be built along the transportation lines. More recent history of the fast growing region has featured many of the leaders in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and beyond.

Heat Waves X: Mirage by Lynne Harrill
Inspired by the happy childhood memory of travelling through the South Carolina flat lands on our way to the beach, where we could see a mirage on the hot pavement of the highway.
